June M. Morris, chief executive officer of Morris Air Corp. and founder of Morris Travel Corp., has

been named Athena Businesswoman of the Year by the Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Governors.Morris was honored at the Chamber's breakfast meeting held Tuesday morning at the Salt Lake Marriott and at a reception at the chamber offices Tuesday night.

The Athena Businesswoman of the Year Award is presented annually to recognize a businesswoman who has demonstrated leadership in her business; supports professional women; provides valuable community service and is an active member of the Salt Lake Area Chamber of Commerce.

Morris has worked in the travel business more than 30 years, having been employed at the Automobile Association of America, Whitney Travel and American Express Travel. Morris went into business for herself in 1970 and built a one-woman office into one of the largest travel agencies nationwide with 22 branches employing more than 400 people. She also founded the June Morris School of Travel.

Morris Air Service was founded in 1984 as a division of Morris Travel and presently operates as a separate corporation. Morris Air is considered the largest woman-owned and operated business in Utah and ranked 33rd-largest in the country.

She served on the Chamber's Board of Governors from 1985-1988. She has been recognized nationally as one of the Top 50 Women Business Owners in the nation by Working Woman magazine.

Locally, Morris has participated in the University of Utah College of Business National Advisory Board, Salt Lake Convention and Visitors Bureau Board of Trustees and Utah Governor's Commission on the Status of Women.

The Athena award was sponsored by First Security Bank of Utah. Morris is the ninth recipient of the award.
