SHARE OLDROYD, SUMMERHAYS WIN, QUALIFY FOR TRIP TO PINEHURST

Richfield's Ryan Oldroyd and Farmington's Elizabeth Summerhays earned themselves a trip to Pinehurst, N.C., as winners at the Maxfli Utah Section PGA Junior Championship Tuesday at Valley View Golf Course.

Oldroyd shot a 2-under par 70 to go with his 70 of the previous day at Davis Park to win the boys division by five strokes over Lance Richards. Summerhays shot a 76, which gave her a 154 total and a 5-shot win over Kami Whitehead.Summerhays and Oldroyd will represent Utah at the National PGA Junior Tournament Aug. 22-27 at Pinehurst Golf Club.

Marty Jacks won the boys 14-15 division in a sudden-death playoff over Jordan Bloxham, while Summer Fenstermaker was a 12-stroke winner among the younger girls.

BYU golfers Brad Sutterfield and Jason Thomas both qualified for match play at the Public Links Championship at Brighton, Colo. Sutterfield, who lost in the finals of the Utah State Amateur Sunday, fired a 69 for a 145 total, while Thomas, who just completed his eligibility at BYU, shot a 75 for a 147 total. Match play began Wednesday and a champion will be crowned by Saturday.
