SHARE WEBER WILL OPEN IN ALASKA VS. WOLFPACK

The 1993-94 men's basketball season begins a week early for Weber State, which will be part of the eight-team field in the Great Alaskan Shootout Nov. 24-27 in Anchorage, Alaska.

Coach Ron Abegglen's crew will open this year's event on Wednesday, Nov. 24, playing North Carolina State in the opening game. The second game of the evening pits Purdue against Wisconsin-Green Bay. The winners of the Wednesday matchups play each other Friday, Nov. 26, live on ESPN.In Thursday's first-round action, Hawaii plays the University of Portland and host Alaska-Anchorage faces Wake Forest.

North Carolina State, a two-time winner of the Shootout, is making its fourth trip. The Wolfpack won in inaugural Shootout in 1978, and repeated as champions in 1983.

It is Weber State's first appearance in the Shootout and marks the return of Abegglen to Anchorage, where he spent five years as head coach and two as assistant at Alaska-Anchorage.
