Indian army personnel rescue residents of Ludhiana city in the flooded northern Indian state of Punjab Thursday. Monsoon rains soaked the area again Friday, hampering efforts to save trapped people. Troops in motor boats were unable to reach thousands of people marooned in flood-stricken villages. Two-story houses were submerged in many of the 2,550 villages that were still under water. The death toll in the worst-hit Punjab has reached 235, and more than 325 have died nationwide.
