Ecuador held three-time World Cup champion Brazil to a scoreless tie Sunday night as South American qualifying began for the 1994 World Cup. Brazil had won 11 of 12 previous games against Ecuador, including six since a 2-2 tie in 1963. Ecuador has never qualified for the Cup finals.

In Sunday's other South American game, Bolivia scored its biggest soccer victory ever with a 7-1 rout of Venezuela.
