Alpine's Kim Thompson and Mulligans' assistant pro Greg Stimpson survived two rounds at the Utah Section PGA Match Play Championship Thursday at Stansbury Park GC and advanced to Friday's finals.

Thompson, a former winner of the event, defeated Rose Park's Glen Spencer 4 and 3 in the quarterfinals and Wingpointe's Lynn Landgren by the same score in the semifinals. Stimpson downed Doug Roberts and Matt Johnson by 2 and 1 scores.In the senior division, Dick Peacock and Bob Flagler both advanced to Friday's 18-hole final.

The winner of the Match Play tournament will win $1,200 with the senior winner earning $700.

Scott Hailes, Greg Padilla and Boyd Summerhays earned invitations to play in the U.S. Junior Amateur in Oregon with top scores at the Keith Clearwater Junior Tournament Wednesday and Thursday. All three players finished with scores of 147. Hailes and Summerhays live in Davis County, while Padilla came up from San Diego to qualify.

While Hailes and Summerhays were also winners in the boys 15-17-year-old division, Noah Backman won the 13-14 division, Skyli Yamada won the girls 15-17 division and Laura Richards the 13-14 division.

Stephanie Brockbank and Melanie Warren teamed to win the Firecracker 4 Ball Thursday at Mountain View Golf Course. Their 67 was four strokes better than Nell Allred-Aileen Smith and five better than Kim Heppler-Julia Porter.
