Journal Entry:

"...the fading light of dusk cast long shadows across desolated glacier cut valleys far below, as I pushed up a high windswept ridge under the weight of a heavy pack. Forcing tired legs to march, I carried the last load of a long day over a final steep pitch of boulder strewn disarray, coming to rest at the base of an immense glacier. An entire day's work just to move climbing gear and provisions 3,000 vertical feet."Bart G. Hyne reached the summit of an arduous eight-year climb on July 19, 1993.

He is survived by the Leonard R. West family and a large circle of friends who will be forever grateful he crossed their path. Bart led us to the cup of life and taught us how to drink long, fully, and with appreciation. There is no doubt in our minds that his spirit was released into the loving hands of God. Bart, we will miss your humor, your strength and your undying will to live each day to its fullest. May your best climbs lie ahead. Run wild, run free.

Your eternal friend, Melanie.

Services will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Park City, Utah on July 22, 1993, 7 p.m.
