DON’T BLAME FHP FOR HOME BIRTH

SHARE DON’T BLAME FHP FOR HOME BIRTH

I am writing with regard to the story about the baby who was born at home in the garage. I think it is unfair to blame FHP for the traumatic delivery. The baby was born at 5:50 p.m. and the father didn't even get home until 5:30 p.m. In addition, the sister was not there to pick up the children. There is no way Karen McCash would have made it to the hospital on time even if FHP had authorized admittance.

If this had been a planned home delivery, there likely would not have been a problem. However, because labor advanced so quickly, I doubt that even Mrs. McCash realized the birth was imminent until it was too late. FHP was only following established guidelines to determine the advancement of labor. If the McCashes had made it to the hospital I'm sure they wouldn't have been turned away. Also, why didn't the husband and sister help her into the kitchen or onto a bed? They could have carried her if necessary. Mario McCash said, "I'm angry with FHP for causing the situation in the first place." FHP didn't cause the situation. It just happened.
