Utah Symphony music director Joseph Silverstein has been named music adviser to the Louisville Orchestra for 1994-95.
The appointment follows Louisville music director Lawrence Leighton Smith's announcement last year that, after 11 years at the orchestra's helm, he wishes to pursue other opportunities. He will continue to appear with the orchestra, however, assuming the two-year title of conductor laureate following '93-94.Silverstein will help in finding a new music director and be responsible for artist selection and program development during the orchestra's '94-95 season. He has previously filled similar posts with the Baltimore, Toledo, Virginia, Florida, Alabama and Oakland symphony orchestras.
He last appeared with the Louisville Orchestra in 1992, as conductor and violin soloist in the Beethoven Violin Concerto.
- UTAH VIOLINIST Rosalie Lund was recently awarded second prize in the National Federation of Music Clubs' national biennial student awards competition.
The Woods Cross High School graduate was awarded $750. She is a student of Gerald Elias and will attend Brigham Young University next fall. She is also scheduled to solo with the Utah Symphony as a winner in its 1993 Youth Guild Competition.
