Golf: Jones wins assistants title; juniors shine
Assistant Murray Parkway Golf Course pro Chris Jones shot 136 (70-66) to win the 36-hole 1993 Assistants Championship title Tuesday at Park City Golf Course. Jones defeated Steve Schneiter of Pebblebrook by three strokes. Brand Hansen of Mulligan's finished third at 141.
A team from Utah is in sixth place after the first round of the Pacific Coast Amateur in Vancouver, British Columbia. Team Utah's scores on the par-73 course were: Mark Domm, 74; Brad Sutterfield, 77; and Randy Robertson .
Boyd Summerhays of Farmington shot an opening-round 71 to tie for 10th place at the U.S. Junior Amateur Championship in Portland, Ore.
Skyli Yamada won the girls 15-17 division and Kyle Wight and Mike Jacks tied for first in the boys 15-17 division at the Northern Utah Junior Golf Tournament. Yamada had a 36-hole score of 149 (77-72) while Wight and Jacks were each 171. They all qualfied for the Independent Insurance Youth Classic in August.
