A man was shot to death early Friday in a mobile home, but police are not yet saying how they believe he was killed.

The shooting occurred about 2 a.m. inside a home east of Lake Hills Mortuary, 10055 S. State. A 32-year-old man was shot once in the head with a handgun and was pronounced dead about 2:30 a.m. at Alta View Hospital.Officers said they were still trying to confirm the man's identity Friday morning.

"It appears it's a possible accidental shooting. That's the information we have at this point," said Sandy Police Sgt. Mark Nosack.

A man at the scene when officers arrived was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail after officers questioned him about the incident. But detective Mike Fahey emphasized that the man was booked on unrelated charges.

"He was not booked in on anything to do with the shooting," Fahey said.

However, jail records indicate that Christopher Mallen, 32, was booked into jail Friday for investigation of discharging a firearm as well as intoxication.

Police recovered the weapon used in the shooting but would not say what kind of gun it is. Detectives were still at the scene late Friday morning.
