Trade talks regarding Rickey Henderson heated up Friday.
"The chance is not greater than 50-50" that a deal will be made by Saturday night's 9 p.m. PDT trading deadline, Oakland general manger Sandy Alderson said Friday night before the A's game with Texas. However, he did acknowledge that negotiations have been ongoing with a number of American League clubs. After Saturday night's deadline, players must clear waivers before being traded.
Toronto seems the likely candidate for a Henderson trade. The Blue Jays are in the midst of a tight division race and need a left fielder. Toronto has been platooning Darnell Coles and Turner Ward in left. The hold up might be that the Blue Jays have greater need for pitching.
The A's are looking to rebuild pitching staffs at their minor and major league levels.
