Directions - Follow highway 40 past the Strawberry to intersection with 208, then take it northwest towards Tabiona and Hanna. Duchesne |River parallels the highway. Pickup the North Fork near the Stockmore Ranger Station.
Description - This is a nice section of river coming out of the Uintas. Pines and aspens stand along the banks. This is not a large river. In most places it ranges from six to 15 feet across. Has nice series of pools and ripples to fish. This is an excellent water for the beginner and a fund spot for the intermediate to advanced fly fisherman.
What works - Some of the more popular patterns are Renegades, Royal Wulff, Green Elk Hair Caddis in smaller pattersn. When nothing seems to be working, try a "Goofus Bug."
Details - This is an excellent place for na angler to start his or her fly fishing career. This section is frequently planted, and because of it the fish are not usually as spooky, are anxious to feed and are usually less concerned about natureal drift. There are a number of nice open aras, too, so less change of dreaded backcast hangups. Try working the pools first by casting above and letting the fly drift, as naturally as possible, on though. Also might try working the bottom of the ripples.
Notes - Great place to go to school, if for nothing else the scenery. The last few miles to this spot are over a dirt road, but it's a good dirt road. First few miles of river parallel the road, then there are trails that go into the backcountry and follow the river. Nice camping spot in the area. Takes about three hours to get to river from Salt Lake City.
