Nolan Ryan, who has been on the disabled list since May 17, hopes to return to the starting rotation in two weeks.

The Texas Rangers right-hander is tentatively scheduled to pitch against Milwaukee on July 19 at Arlington Stadium."That is kind of a target date," Ryan said Saturday. "I think it's realistic, but it's still quite a ways away. We'll probably know more in the next week to 10 days."

Ryan has been on the disabled list with a strained left hip. Earlier in the season, he had arthroscopic surgery to repair damaged knee ligaments.

Ryan has remained in Arlington during the Rangers' current road trip. He has worked out daily at Arlington Stadium with Tom House, last year's pitching coach and now a consultant for the team.

Ryan went through another throwing session off the mound Friday.

"I was a little disappointed my mechanics aren't better, but they should come around," he said. "I made a lot of progress over yesterday. If I continue on that course, it shouldn't be a problem."

Ryan is scheduled to throw in a simulated game July 14, the day after the All-Star game. That would enable him to pitch July 19 against the Brewers.
