MorMedia Inc. of Ogden assumed ownership of the student-run Cache Citizen weekly newspaper Thursday.

Utah State University President George Emert said the sale would benefit both the new owners and the school. In return for the sale of the newspaper, which serves as a working laboratory for journalism students, USU received $18,000 for equipment and an estimated $40,000 in receivables, or ad revenue due to the paper.

In addition, the communications department will receive an increasing percentage of gross sales for the next three years. The percentage will be 4 percent the first year, 8 the second and 12 percent the third year.

"MorMedia has acquired a respected and award-winning community weekly and USU jour-nal-ism students will continue to provide the news coverage, which was my objective from the beginning," Emert said.

MorMedia publishes mainly military newspapers, including the Hill Top Times, a weekly newspaper circulated at Hill Air Force Base.

Nancy Williams, assistant professor at Utah State and faculty adviser to the Citizen, said after several meetings with owner Bill Mulvay, she is confident the sale is a positive move.
