More than 53 million American workers wear some form of specialized clothing to work, the Textile & Apparel Services Council said Wednesday.

In a recent industry study by the group, TASC said an estimated 37 percent of all male workers are likely to wear special work clothing on the job.The trade publication said some 20 percent of the nation's working women are likely to wear a uniform or protective garment to the workplace.

TASC said about 14 percent of the nation's workers using special clothing wear rented uniforms, while some 32 percent wear garments purchased by their employers.

The trade publication noted that blue-collar workers make up roughly 61 percent of the total uniformed work force.
