American golfer Payne Stewart said he has a heart condition that will force him to change his lifestyle.

The 1991 U.S. Open champion, among the leaders in this week's Scottish Open, said he has an enlarged heart and a blockage on the left side.Nevertheless, the 36-year-old Stewart said he feels fine and plans to play in next week's British Open in Sandwich.

"As soon as the cardiologist said it's not serious, that's all I needed to hear," he said. "Any heart problem is serious, but it's not life-threatening."

Stewart said he may need a pacemaker later in life. In the meantime, he said he has cut out alcohol and is trying to give up his habit of chewing tobacco.
