Paul Hartup and Darlene Pinkerton, right, visit their son, Ty Hartup, after donating parts of their lungs to him. The parents, who divorced in 1976, were reunited and underwent operations to save the life of their 21-year-old son. He suffers from cystic fibrosis, an inherited disease that involves severe digestive and respiratory problems, including chronic coughing, recurrent bronchitis and pneumonia, and kills half its victims before they reach 30.
