A South Jordan man was killed Wednesday when his car collided head-on with a truck on Redwood Road near 7380 South.

The 45-year-old man, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, died at the scene after the vehicle he was driving crossed the center line and collided with a 1961 Ford pickup truck. The driver of the second vehicle, a 40-year-old West Jordan man, was taken to Holy Cross Hospital-Jordan Valley in serious condition, Utah Highway Patrol trooper Mike Cowdell said. His name was not released. The two men were the sole occupants of the vehicles. Investigators believe the South Jordan man may have been trying to pass a second vehicle at the time of the collision.

A West Jordan patrol car was involved in an accident while en route to the scene, resulting only in property damage, Cowdell said.
