I do not understand the negative reaction the Republicans and many Utahns have had to President Clinton's budget plan. The way I understand it, Clinton did exactly what he told us he would do: He reduced the deficit with the least possible burden being placed on the middle class.
Perhaps most people just do not understand where the deficit reduction comes from in the new plan. For every $10 of deficit reduction, $5 dollars comes from spending cuts and $4 comes from increased taxes on those making more than $200,000 per year. The remaining $1 comes from all other taxpayers, including the middle class.I applaud Clinton for attacking the federal deficit - and for doing it in such a fair way. Hopefully, we can get this mess under control before we pass it on to our children.
