Kirk B. Turner, age 77, passed peacefully from this life on August 20, 1993, at his home, following a long and valiant battle with Parkinson's Disease. His wife of 52 years, who lovingly cared for him throughout his illness, was at his side.
He was born on April 4, 1916 in Loa, Utah, the oldest child of Ray E. and Lila Brian Turner. He spent his childhood in Loa, leaving there after high school to pursue an education. Married Fern Ingram in Stillwater, Oklahoma on September 21, 1941. The marriage was solemnized in the Mesa, Arizona Temple.He graduated from Utah State University in 1939 with a BS degree in Animal Science. Earned a Master's degree form Oklahoma A & M College (Now OSU), Stillwater, Oklahoma, in 1941. Also pursued a PhD at Michigan State University, Lansing, Michigan.
He served honorably for four years in the U.S. Army during World War II. Was a professor of Animal Science at Texas Tech University, at Lubbock, Texas for 30 years, retiring form that position in 1978. Resident of West Jordan since 1984.
Daddy loved his family, teaching, books, and the Lord. He was a lifelong member of the LDS Church and was a high priest at the time of his passing. He held numerous leadership and teaching positions in his church throughout his lifetime.
He loved home teaching and was faithful in that calling until his illness no longer permitted.
He is survived by his wife of West Jordan; and daughters, Judy Dettmar, also of West Jordan; and Brenda (Sam) Rawson of Castle Dale, Utah. Was beloved "Grampy" to grandchildren, Ann, Lisa, Jenny, Jeff, Troy, and Shelly; and "Gampy" to great-granddaughter, Jessica. Also survived by one sister, Beth Downard; two brothers, Garn Turner; and Brian Turner; and their families; and also by many friends.
He taught us much about the grace and courage in facing life's challenges. Rest well, sweet Daddy. We are grateful that you are at last at peace. Till we meet again....
Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 23, 1993, at 11 a.m., in the West Jordan 29th Ward building, 6695 South 2200 West, where friends may call Monday, one hour prior to services. Interment, West Jordan City Cemetery.
