With schools about to reopen, West Valley officials are warning motorists that speeding and other unsafe driving habits won't be tolerated.

West Valley Mayor Brent Anderson said the safety effort will include public education, better traffic engineering and more police patrols in school zones.Police Chief Dennis Nordfelt has promised to assign more patrol cars to school zones.

Police will also be looking for parking violators as well as speeders because illegally parked vehicles obstruct visibility and create hazards for children, said Dale Ann Wright, West Valley's "Officer Friendly."
