United Methodist to host all-church picnic Sunday
Christ United Methodist Church, 2375 E. 3300 South, will host its annual all-church picnic on Sunday, Aug. 22 at 2 p.m. in Washington Park, Mt. Dell Terrace. Food, games, softball, volleyball, cards and water balloons will be provided. Participants should bring their own dishes and a main dish, salad or dessert to share. Parish plans festival
Blessed Sacrament Parish, 9800 S. 1700 East, will hold its annual festival Aug. 27-29 at the church. Friday from 7 to midnight is "casino night," with the festival scheduled Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 12 to 5 p.m. Games, food, teen alley, bingo, a 5K run, and silent auction are planned.
Zion workshop Aug. 28
Zion Lutheran Church, 1070 Foothill Drive, will host a Christian education workshop, "Teaching the Teachers," on Saturday, Aug. 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Topics include effectively teaching Sunday School curriculum, discipline, how to teach children to pray and encouraging group building and involvement. Orientation meeting set
An orientation meeting for volunteers interested in helping with Salt Lake City's annual CROP Walk will be held on Sunday, Aug. 29 at 3 p.m. at the Greek Orthodox Church, 259 S. 300 West. Every church, parish and ward in the area is invited to send a representative to the meeting. Sponsor forms for walkers, posters, buttons and instructions will be available.
The CROP Walk is a 10K interfaith event to be held the afternoon of Sunday, Oct. 3, beginning and ending at Liberty Park. Organizers hope to raise $10,000 to benefit a variety of projects that help the hungry both locally and internationally. For information, call Cheryl Van Voorhis at 568-0108.
Eckankar to host seminar
Eckankar, Religion of the Light and Sound of God, will host a regional spiritual seminar, "How to Find Spiritual Balance in Our Life," on Saturday, Sept. 4, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Olympus Hotel, 161 W. 600 South. Topics will include "Spirit, the Breath of Life," "Love, the Keystone of ECK," "Bringing Mastership Into Our Lives," "Dreams, Your Road to Heaven," "Working with Change in Your Life," and "Spiritual Exercises." Clothing giveaway set
Catholic Community Services will host its annual Back-to-School clothing giveaway for children and teens in need on Thursday and Friday, Aug. 26 and 27, from 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 2300 W. 1700 South. Parish to host pig roast
