A 14-year-old boy was shot in the lower shoulder late Saturday night outside the Central Civico Center, 160 S. 600 West.
Gunfire erupted about 11:25 p.m. from outside the fence around the center. The boy was in the yard inside the fence, said Lt. Dick Johnson, Salt Lake police.Police believe the shooting was gang-related and were searching for at least two suspects with small-caliber handguns believed to be in a grey Nissan sedan. The victim was transported by ambulance to Primary Children's Medical Center after his friends carried him inside the center.
"We believe there were at least two guns involved, possibly Saturday-night specials," Johnson said. "But we don't believe the victim had a gun."
Two shell casings were found. Nothing else was hit, and no one else was hurt in the gunfire in which at least seven shots were fired. A private wedding party was going on inside the center but was not involved.
