Actor Jack Lemmon and MCA-Universal president Sidney Sheinberg are among the leaders of a neighborhood group successfully fighting plans by London-based financier Robert Manoukian to build a 46,000-square-foot, 18-bedroom, 21-bath palazzo in their neighborhood, where 6,000-square-foot mansions are commonplace.

Says Lemmon, who lives next to the proposed home and was a leader of the neighborhood group, "When I moved into Beverly Hills over 30 years ago, I thought this is one of the most beautiful small towns that I'd ever been in. (But) it has done nothing but become uglier and uglier. . . ."Lemmon vowed his group would "fight and fight and fight" to stymie the plan, then won out when the City Council voted to reject Manoukian's proposal.
