A search for a Brigham City man, missing since Friday at Willard Bay, was called off at dark Saturday night, and was to resume at 7 a.m. today.
The family of Verl J. Iverson, 59, anxiously awaited word on his whereabouts Saturday as search and rescue teams scoured Willard Bay during the day and evening.A boat belonging to Iverson was found empty and banging against the rocks on the bay's west shore at 10 p.m. Friday. Iverson's truck and boat trailer were found a few hours earlier on the bay's east shore.
According to a family friend, Iverson's wife, Ruth, was out of town and arrived home at 6 p.m. to discover that her husband, his truck and boat were gone. She notified authorities after waiting several hours for him to return.
Underwater search efforts were hampered Saturday by silt stirred up by a storm Friday night.
Iverson's family said earlier Saturday he may have swum to shore and may be wandering and disoriented. Iverson is described as being 5 feet 7 inches tall, of slight build, with gray hair and glasses.
The Box Elder County Sheriff's Department said it will continue the search as long as necessary. Anyone with information about the missing man is urged to contact the Box Elder County Sheriff's office, 734-9441.
