Davis County Commissioner Gerald Purdy died Monday morning, five days after suffering a heart attack at his Kaysville home. The commissioner died in Davis Hospital without regaining consciousness. He was 63.

Purdy, a Republican, was elected to the Davis Commission in 1990 after serving as mayor and as a member of the Kaysville City Council. He retired from Davis High School after 30 years as a teacher, assistant principal and football coach.He underwent a bypass operation several years ago.

Purdy was apparently on his way to his office in Farmington when he was stricken shortly after 9 a.m. while getting into his car at his home.

His wife, Faye, had left the house a few mintues earlier but returned home when she realized she had forgotten something and found Purdy, unconscious, in the front seat of his car.

Paramedics transported Purdy to Davis Hospital and Medical Center in Layton, where he was hospitalized in the cardiac intensive care unit.
