SHARE S.L. MAN WHO WAS SHOT BY OFFICER FACES CHARGE

A man shot by a Salt Lake police officer nearly two weeks ago was charged with aggravated assault Thursday.

Daniel S. Shepard, 41, was charged in 3rd Circuit Court with attacking officer Eric Irvine with a 31-inch sword. Shepard is still recovering from three gunshot wounds and was listed in fair condition at LDS Hospital Friday morning.Irvine responded to Shepard's home at 1128 W. Indiana Jan. 4 about 11 p.m. in response to a report of a family fight. Shepard was shot once in the chest and twice in the shoulder as he allegedly rushed at Irvine swinging the sword. The shooting is still under investigation by the Salt Lake County attorney's office.
