A Salt Lake food company reported losing more than $80,000 to an apparent embezzlement scheme during a 10-month period in 1993, police records show.

Officials of Borden Inc., 200 N. 2100 West, said they found fraudulent invoices from a nonexistent company dated from Jan. 29, 1993, to Oct. 25, 1993, that totaled $84,930, the reports state.Apparently a Borden employee would order equipment from the fictitious company, draw up phony invoices and send the bills to Borden, according to the report. No arrests have been made, and the incident is under investigation.
