Witt qualifies for Olympics
COPENHAGEN, Denmark - Surya Bonaly of France won her fourth consecutive title at European Figure Skating Championships, and two-time Olympic champion Katarina Witt qualified for next month's Games.
Witt finished eighth, just high enough to qualify for Germany. Tanja Szewczenko was top-placed German, finishing fifth. The country's top two finishers made Olympics.

Blair, Jansen skate to World Cup wins
MILWAUKEE - Bonnie Blair, of Champaign, Ill., won two races Saturday to sweep two-day World Cup at Pettit National Ice Center. She broke 1,000-meter track record in 1 minute, 20.24 seconds and won her second 500-meters in 39.60.
Dan Jansen, of West Allis, Wis., won a 500-meters race, 1,000 meters in a time of 1:14.01, and finished second in another 1,000-meter race and third in a 500.
Murray claims another all-around title
DENVER - Ty Murray claimed his sixth all-around champion cowboy title at the National Western Rodeo on Sunday.
Murray won $10,369 in the bareback bronc riding, saddle bronc riding and bull riding events. He also won the bull riding title.
Day on board for 6,000th win
HOT SPRINGS, Ark. - Jockey Pat Day became the 10th rider to reach the 6,000-win milestone Sunday when he captured the first race at Oaklawn Park.
Dragster careens into crowd; 8-year-old killed
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - An illegal racer lost control of his Camaro on a makeshift drag strip, killing an 8-year-old boy and injuring five other spectators, authorities said.
Brent Dean Hutchinson, 33, was racing against a Thunderbird at an abandoned airport in front of about 200 spectators Sunday when he lost control, striking parked cars that slammed into the crowd, said Jacksonville Sheriff's Sgt. Malcolm Adams.
Hutchinson was charged with vehicular homicide and reckless driving. The Thunderbird and its driver got away, police said.
Nathan Dale Bishop, 8, was thrown about 100 feet and fatally injured. His 12-year-old sister Amy, two 11-year-old girls and the mother of one of the 11-year-olds were seriously injured. The dead boy's father, Glenn Bishop, 31, refused treatment for cuts.

The Salt Lake chapter of the Cougar Club will meet Tuesday at noon in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building Empire Room. BYU basketball coach Roger Reid will be the guest speaker. The public is invited.
