Ogden-based Thiokol has won two military missile-motor contracts for a total of $24 million - although the lion's share of the work will be performed out of state.
The Navy awarded it a $17.2 million contract for motors for the AIM-9 and RAM tactical missiles for the Navy, Air Force and the governments of Taiwan, Turkey, Germany, Belgium and Finland. That work is to be conducted at Thiokol's Huntsville, Ala., plant.
The Air Force also announced that Thiokol would receive the first installment of a $5.1 million contract for maintenance of the first stage of the Minuteman III inter-continental ballistic missile, which Thiokol built originally.
Rep. Jim Hansen, R-Utah, who announced the contracts, said, "These awards demonstrate that the military has continued confidence in Thiokol and the fine work they do."
He added, "This is welcome news for Thiokol in winning these two awards, especially as it is becoming harder and harder to get defense contracts."
