A successful appeal by the Southern Utah Fuel Co. will reduce anticipated combined tax receipts for the Sevier School District and Sevier County government by nearly $209,000 annually.
SUFCo's tax liability for 1992 and 1993 was reduced by that amount, and the reassessment will apply to the company's future tax liabilities, treasurer Leda Jensen told county commissioners. The Utah Tax Commission concluded the company's liability was $990,685. But SUFCo officials appealed that decision, and the assessment was reduced by $209,000.
The ruling resulted in a loss in tax revenue for the Sevier School District of $64,405 for 1992 and $73,247 for 1993. Sevier County's revenue was reduced by $26,617 and $30,000, respectively, for the two years.
A small portion of SUFCo's tax money goes to other entities, but the losses are relatively insignificant.
