Police Capt. Duane Fraser is retiring Friday after working 30 years at the Provo Police Department.
Fraser, 57, has worked in the department's patrol, detective and special services divisions. In 1983, he received the Medal of Valor, the department's highest honor, for hazardous work during a flood in Provo. Fraser helped break logjams in the Provo River."I had to do some pretty dumb things in the middle of the river," he said.
Fraser's most recent assignment was head of the detective division, where he handled public relations for the department. He was also a member of Provo's Mountain Rescue Team.
"This is the kind of job you do because you like to. You don't do it for the money or the prestige," he said.
Craig Geslison advanced to captain and will head the patrol division. Capt. George Pierpont will move from patrol to detectives.
David Bolda was promoted from sergeant to lieutenant. He leads the department's new youth crime division. Alan Kuchar became a sergeant.
