RKO Pictures, one of the oldest names among Hollywood studios, returns to production with "The Locked Room," assigning Nicolas Roeg to direct from a Dan Gurskis screenplay.

The drama is based on the third novel in Paul Auster's New York trilogy and deals with an undistinguished academic writer drawn into an intrigue after he is named executor of the will of an acclaimed novelist.Roeg, who directed "Heart of Darkness" for Turner Pictures most recently, also directed "The Man Who Fell to Earth," "Don't Look Now" and "Performance."
