SHARE BRIGHTON DOMINATES SWIM MEET

Keeping with tradition, Brighton's girls and boys swim teams captured both Region 4 swim titles at Saturday's meet. The girls racked up 515 points while the boys came up with 474. This is the 19th straight year the girls have won the championship and the 15th for the boys.

Mountain View's boys came in second with 295 and Orem ended up third with 198. For the girls, Orem finished second with 348.5 and Hillcrest placed third with 114 points.As usual, both of Brighton's teams relied upon their depth and talent. Both captured the region win in all three relays. Brighton's girls dominated the 200 individual medley, taking first through fourth. Brighton's boys likewise dominated the 500 free, with first through fourth finishes.

Brighton's girl divers also performed well. Senior Amy Icardi, took first with 414.90 while teammates Martina Gomez, 406.45, and Karen Kennedy, 393.30, took second and third respectively.

The results of the 1-meter diving for the boys was more diverse. American Fork's Danny Bergman took first with 449.50. Hillcrest's Doug Johnson and Mountain View's Josh Garner took second and third respectively.

Orem's girls' depth was the key to their second-place finish. They placed second in all three relays. Orem also did well in the 100 backstroke as freshman Melissa Belliston placed first while teammate Chelsey Apostol finished second.

Outstanding swimmers for Mountain View were seniors Eric Robinson, who won the 100 back and placed second in the 100 butterfly; and Josh Rowland, who placed first in the 100 free. Sophomore Michael Kern also swam well, winning the 200 individual medley. Mountain View also took second in all three relays.
