The first significant storm in nearly a month may leave 3 to 6 inches of snow in northern Utah valleys by Wednesday afternoon. Mountain locations could receive 3 to 6 inches late Tuesday and an additional 6 to 12 inches Wednesday.

A storm system off the Pacific Northwest coast will move inland later Tuesday, and an associated cold front will enter extreme northwestern Utah by early Wednesday, sweeping across the state during the day, said Dave Sanders, a meteorologist at the Salt Lake office of the National Weather Service.Southern Utah valleys will follow the same pattern of rain changing to snow. However, amounts will be less than those in the north, Sanders said.
