Three 21-year-old Salt Lake men were charged with aggravated assault Tuesday in a Jan. 1 shooting at the Centro Civico Mexicano, 165 S. 600 West.

One of the men is accused of firing a .22-caliber pistol eight times into a crowd of people during an argument at a New Year's Day dance. The gunman then jumped into a car driven by the second defendant, who sped away.Witnesses said they heard the third defendant cock a pistol while the shots were being fired, according to a court report.
