A snow-covered sculpture of a fiddler stands outside River Place office building in Detroit, where nearly 10 inches of snow has fallen in the past two days. Snow and freezing rain across much of the Midwest and Northeast Friday closed offices and schools, caused accidents and stranded travelers. In western Wisconsin, a sudden plunge in temperatures snapped electrical lines, leaving hundreds without power for four hours. One death was blamed on icy roads in Oklahoma. Finland, Minn., received 36 inches of snow since noon Thursday.
