A 15-year-old boy without a driver's license eluded police for more than 60 miles Monday night in a stolen car.

Pleasant Grove Police spokesman Sgt. Stephen Framp-ton said patrol officer Marc Sanderson was off duty and headed for some running at Brigham Young University when he noticed the stolen vehicle at 600 North in Lindon. He stopped the car and had the occupants put their hands outside the windows, but as he approached the young driver took off.

The teenage male and his 17-year-old female passenger, both from Salt Lake City, hit speeds of up to 110 mph, some-times cutting in and out of traffic as they fled. Police stopped the car in Nephi with a tire ripper laid across his

path. Despite four flat tires, the young driver persisted in his evasion until two of the tires were run down to bare metal, said Frampton.

The car then came to a slow stop when it could no longer get traction.
