If you haven't already ordered your incorrect "Legends of the West" stamps, forget it.

Postal officials said Monday they have received 506,000 orders for the 150,000 stamps available for sale. The post office originally planned to recall and destroy more than 5 million sheets of the stamps after it discovered that one stamp, honoring black cowboy Bill Pickett, actually had a picture of Pickett's brother.

But once it was determined 183 sheets had already been sold, the post office announced that it would sell 150,000 in order to maintain a policy of never deliberately creating a stamp rarity. In the meantime, corrected stamp sheets are being printed.

The recalled stamps were made available by mail, starting Oct. 1, on a first-come, first-served basis. The orders are being sorted to prevent duplication.
