Basketball
LEAGUE. Salt Lake County Parks and Rec is taking applications for the Winter Men's Basketball League. The league will begin playing Nov. 1. This is 14-week program. Cost is $360 per team. Leagues Monday through Friday throughout valley. 468-2560.
JAZZ. The East Millcreek Rec Center is accepting registration for the 1994-95 Utah Jazz Youth Basketball Season for players grades 1-12. Girls may register from Oct. 11-Nov. 23. Boys registration is over. Cost is $45 and includes ticket to Jazz game, clinic, jersey, weekly games and more. Games played on Saturdays at areas junior and senior high schools. JAZZ. Jordan Community School/Sandy Parks and Recreation are taking registration for the boys and girls Jazz Yough Basketball. For grades 3-12. Cost is $37 for grades 3-6, $40 for 7-12. Volleyball
CLINIC. The Elaine Roque Volleyball Clinic will be Nov. 5 and 6 at East Millcreek Rec Center, 2230 E. Evergreen Ave. Roque is the No. 3 ranked pro volleyball player in the world. There will be three clinic sessions for adults, junior high and high school players. Fee is $20 per person before Oct. 28, $25 after. 272-2243.
TOURNAMENT. The 9th annual Casper Open Volleyball Tournament will be held Nov. 12-13 in Casper, Wyo. Teams from around western U.S. are invited. Entry fee is $50 due Nov. 4. 307-235-8393.

REI CLINICS. On Nov. 1, Joy Staveley will show slide and answer questions about the North Rim Nordic Center and cross country skiing in the Kaibab National Forest. Also, there will be a drawing for a free weekend for two at the Grand Canyon, including van access, guided ski tour, meals and lodging . . . On Nov. 8, Chris Allaire of Solitude will give clinic on getting started in cross country skiing, including physical conditioning, beginner tours and equipment . . . On Nov. 15, Jeff Bates and Pete Stuart of Burton Snowboards, will present an overview of snowboarding, including video and equipment . . . On Nov. 22, Bruce Black and Kathy Tillman will present a 90-minute presentation on Mt. McKinley expeditions and why expeditions enjoy a mere 40 percent success rate . . . On Nov. 29, experts from Utah Avalanche Forecast Center will present a memorable slide show and video, sharing tips on safe travel for skiers, snowboards and other winter adventures. All clinics are free and begin at 7 p.m. All clinics are at REI, 3285 E. 3300 South. 486-2100. Also, on Nov. 5, REI will hold a Backcountry Ski Swap for nordic or alpine skis and boots, camping tear, clothing and other outdoor recreation equipment.
