A settlement in a class-action suit against rock 'n' roll legend Chuck Berry was tentatively agreed to Monday in St. Charles, Mo.
About 60 women who say they were secretly videotaped while using the bathroom at Berry's properties will share $830,000, according to lawyers and others in the case.Berry was not in St. Charles County Circuit Court, but his attorney, Martin Green, said the singer continues to deny videotaping the women. Green said Berry "isn't sure who did it, nor is he admitting any collaboration."
Green said two other suits against Berry were recently settled for a total of $350,000 to $400,000. He said one other suit should be settled soon.
At least two other lawyers said their clients had yet to settle. One of the lawyers, R. Andrew Beeny, said, "People are jumping the gun on this settlement." He said it could fall apart later.
