Don Boyd Smith, age 77, died peacefully at home of emphysema.

He served as a bomber pilot in World War II. He was shot down over French-Indochina, was captured by the Japanese and survived three years as a prisoner of war in Singapore. He was awarded the purple heart with three oak leaf clusters. He was married to Ortha Dyer Smith August 25, 1955. His lifelong profession was that of a certified public accountant. He was also well known in the duplicate bridge world.He is survived by his wife; two step-daughters, Sherry Nielsen (George) and Kristen Chipman (Terry); 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 12, 1 p.m., at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, where friends may call 11:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m., prior to services. Interment, Salt Lake City Cemetery.
