Federal Reserve Board Chairman Alan Greenspan is coming to Utah Nov. 30 to launch a new lecture series for the David Eccles School of Business and the Garn Institute of Finance at the University of Utah.
Greenspan is scheduled to speak at noon at Little America Hotel."All businesses and individuals in the country are affected by rising or falling interest rates," said John Seybolt, dean of the business school. "The Federal Reserve Board is the basic controller of credit in the U.S. economy, thus determining the size of the money supply and the ease or difficulty of borrowing."
Seybolt said Greenspan's remarks will be especially interesting in light of the Nov. 8 general election in which the Republicans won control of both houses of Congress.
"This inaugural event in the lecture series is part of our goal to bring top business and government leaders to the university for the benefit of students, faculty and the citizens of the state," said Ramon Johnson, director of the Garn Institute.
Cost for the luncheon is $50 per person. Johnson said any proceeds beyond expenses will be used for research in finance. For reservations call 581-7270.
