Filmmaker Wayne Wang has signed to direct "The Kitchen God's Wife," an adaptation of Amy Tan's novel based on a screenplay by Tan and screenwriter Ronald Bass.

Hollywood Pictures, a subsidiary of the Disney empire, will produce the film, which marks a reunion of Wang, Tan and Bass, who combined their talents to make "The Joy Luck Club."This story deals with an elderly Chinese woman who shares the shocking secrets of her life and love with her middle-aged daughter. Her tale spans her early years in pre-revolutionary China and subsequent life under Japanese rule.
