Paul Jacob, head of U.S. Term Limits, a national term-limits group, says Utahns shouldn't be deceived by Utah House Speaker Rob Bishop's statement in a recent debate that U.S. Term Limits doesn't support Initiative A.
"Bishop is using a smoke machine," said Jacob. "We strongly support Initiative A - it's real term limits."Bishop sponsored a bill (now a law) in the 1994 Legislature that has a 12-year term limit. That's too long, says Jacob.
In another matter, a survey of Utah's 104 state legislators shows that only 15 pledged not to repeal the current term-limits law.
Bart Grant of Utahns for Term Limits, the pro-Initiative A group, says that proves that voters must adopt Initiative A or face the possibility that the current 12-year term-limit law may be repealed.
