Twenty-five years ago, children's author-illustrator Eric Carle submitted an idea about a little green caterpillar eating its way through die-cut holes in food on diminishing-size pages to emerge, finally, as a beautiful butterfly.
In print since 1968, "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" has been published in more than 18 languages and has sold 6 million copies worldwide. To celebrate, Philomel Books has published "The Very Hungry Caterpillar - 25th Anniversary" edition ($17.95), with a shiny mylar cover and a personal note from Carle on the opening page.
Philomel Books has also published Carle's new book, "My Apron" ($22.95). As a boy, Carle spent summer days with his uncle Adam, a plasterer. The two worked side by side. At the end of the day, his uncle would tell him that he was a "good helper." Each book is packaged with a durable cotton apron. For ages 5 and up.
