Four members of an Ogden family suffered carbon monoxide poisoning in their apartment early Wednesday after a charcoal burner was left on all night.

"It all but asphyxiated a couple of them," said Ogden police Lt. Jon Greiner. The father, Manuel Marroquin, 47, and a son, David, 19, were taken to McKay-Dee Hospital and transferred to LDS Hospital.

Hospital spokesman Jess Gomez said both were treated in the facility's pressurized oxygen chamber and were out of danger.

The mother, Maria, 40, and another son, Manuel Jose, 17, were taken to Ogden Regional Medical Center. A spokeswoman said the mother was treated in the emergency room and released. Her son was in the intensive care unit in fair condition.

Greiner said the family had cooked a dinner Tuesday night on a charcoal burner. The burner was left on and burned all the oxygen out of the air because there was no ventilation in the apartment, he said.

The father was sleeping in a bedroom in the back of the apartment and awakened at 4 a.m. and started vomiting, Greiner said. "He went to the neighbor's house and called for help."
