Free flu shots and treats will be offered this week by Alta View Hospital, 9660 S. 1300 East, Sandy, to help celebrate the completion of its remodeling and expansion project.
The hospital will host an open house Tuesday through Thursday, Nov. 8-10, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. each day, with hot cider, doughnuts and the shots. Visitors will be invited to tour the expanded areas and will receive complimentary first aid kits, too.Wes Thompson, hospital administrator, said the construction project included expanding the laboratory, respiratory care unit and radiology area, along with remodeling of the main lobby and gift shop. Several classrooms have also been added.
Flu shots will be given according to a schedule based on the first letter of the last name of the people getting them, said spokesman Jess Gomez. For those whose names start with the letters A-I, shots will be offered from 4 to 5 p.m.; for J-Q, at 5 to 6 p.m.; for R-Z, 6 to 7 p.m.
Children and teens under 18 should see their pediatricians about whether they should get the shots. They aren't recommended for people allergic to eggs, egg products, Neomycin or the related drugs Gentamycin, Tobramycin and Amikacin.
