Although football season is still keeping fans cheering and Provo roads crowded, the 1994-95 Cougar basketball season is ready to open as well.

University police offer suggestions for those who will be driving or parking around Provo on game nights. The first is Tuesday's varsity preview. The worst traffic problems occur at the conclusion of the games, so all four lanes of 1230 North from the Marriott Center to Canyon Road (150 East) will become one-way for westbound traffic. All four lanes of University Parkway from 600 East to University Avenue will also become one-way for exiting westbound traffic.

Citations will be issued for all traffic and parking violations such as parking on red curbs, double parking, blocking aisles and roads and parking or driving on lawns and sidewalks.

Some of the best public parking will be at the Tanner and Richards buildings. The best place to park for an easy getaway after the game will be west of the stadium. Patrons should not park in BYU housing areas, private driveways or private roads.

Disabled parking is available in any of the reserved lots for those with an authorized permit, placard or license. Patrons without valid state or BYU disability permits must obtain passes from the Special Events office in the Marriott Center at 378-6022.

Reserved lots are restricted for pass holders until 15 minutes before tipoff for the BYU regular season games beginning Dec. 3.

Patrons can enter Reserved Lot 1 north of the Marriott Center from the northeast corner (coming from University Parkway) or from the west entrance (coming up 1230 North).

Reserved Lot 2, north of the Bean Museum, can be entered from either 1430 North or 900 East, although 1430 North is preferable. Reserved Lot 3, west of the Harman Building, can be entered from University Parkway.

Those with Lot 1 passes can park in any of the lots, those with Lot 2 passes can park in either Lot 2 or Lot 3, and those with Lot 3 passes can park only in Lot 3.

For specific questions about driving, parking or reserved-lot parking, call the BYU Traffic Office at 378-2610.
